Legal Provisions for Birth Registration for Adults

In India, it is governed by the Registration of Births and Death Act, 1969. According to the Act:

  1. The Births should ideally register within 21 days of occurrence.
  2. If the registration of births is delayed up to 1 year than it requires the written permission of the registrar along with late fees.
  3. If the registration of births is done after 1 year than it requires an affidavit from parents/guardians or the individual and an approval of a first-class magistrate or equivalent authority.

Step-by-Step Process to Apply Online for the Rest of the States

Step 1: Visit your State’s official Portal for Birth Registration

Step 2: Register/Log in on the Portal

In this step, you need to create an account on the portal. Registration requires a valid email address, mobile number, Aadhaar and basic details.

Step3 : Fill the Application Form

In this step, you need to provide details such as:

  • Full name of applicant.
  • Date, time and place of birth (hospital/home).
  • Parents’ details such as full names, address, Aadhaar numbers and contact information.
  • Current address.
