Legal Provisions for Birth Registration for Adults
In India, it is governed by the Registration of Births and Death Act, 1969. According to the Act:
- The Births should ideally register within 21 days of occurrence.
- If the registration of births is delayed up to 1 year than it requires the written permission of the registrar along with late fees.
- If the registration of births is done after 1 year than it requires an affidavit from parents/guardians or the individual and an approval of a first-class magistrate or equivalent authority.
All the above points says that an 18 years old (or older) individual applying for the first time for the births certificate must go through the delayed registration process.
Step-by-Step Process to Apply Online for the Rest of the States
Step 1: Visit your State’s official Portal for Birth Registration
Step 2: Register/Log in on the Portal
In this step, you need to create an account on the portal. Registration requires a valid email address, mobile number, Aadhaar and basic details.
Step3 : Fill the Application Form
In this step, you need to provide details such as:
- Full name of applicant.
- Date, time and place of birth (hospital/home).
- Parents’ details such as full names, address, Aadhaar numbers and contact information.
- Current address.
