10th Marksheet Name Correction Online (3 Steps Guide)

Are you looking for 10th marksheet name correction online? Here is a case study of a student, SUNIL, whose name was corrected on his 10th-class marksheet. He is going to share his experience and all the steps which he followed to get his name corrected in his educational documents.

He also confirmed that the same process can be used to correct the name on the 12th Class marksheet as well. This works for all state boards and CBSE as well.

INTRODUCTION OF SUNIL

Hi, I am Sunil, a resident of Chandigarh and a student pursuing B.Com from Panjab University. After completion of my Higher Secondary school exams, I found a spelling error in my name in the 10th class marksheet, which was different from the name on my Aadhar card.

I got stressed at first, and I was denied admission with a new name as well and was advised to get my name corrected in my 10th class marksheet.

I rushed to my school, but I was very disappointed when my school refused to correct my name, as I had already completed my schooling, and they told me that now it can only be done by visiting the regional office of my board, which was CBSE in my case.

I told my parents about the scenario, and I even cried as well.

VISITING CBSE REGIONAL OFFICE FOR MARKSHEET NAME CORRECTION

CBSE Regional office

With Hope and Fear as well, I, along with my father, visited the CBSE regional office for the very first time. I told the whole story to the staff who dealt with us.

My bad luck, they also denied initially, but after making a request, they told us that there is one way which can help my name get corrected or even changed in my 10th Marksheet. I got a little hope and asked them how it was possible?

They told me to get a notification of name change printed in the Gazette of India.

I asked them how and what the process is.

They told me they can’t tell the process, but if I meet any lawyer, they will help me in getting the Gazette notification for name change in the marksheet.

I asked them if any other documents were needed along with the Gazette Notification?

They asked for the following documents from me;

  1. Gazette notification
  2. 1 Ad in newspaper
  3. Original marksheet
  4. Supportive documents with correct name

Searching Lawyer for Gazette Notification

Now my struggle moves a step forward, and I started looking for any trusted lawyer who can help me get this gazette notification done.

I visited my nearest court and talked to a few lawyers, but they denied that they knew the process, and some asked me to come another day.

I again got disappointed.

I started searching on Google and YouTube, and I found many agents there, but luckily, I got to know that most of those agents are SCAMMING people in the name of the Gazette publication.

I read many blogs and comments where people were complaining about how they got scammed by online sites. Some agents simply block your number once you pay them online, or some draft the gazette file, which faces objections for sure.

During my search, I landed on a YouTube Channel named “SK Legal Guidance” and watched a step-by-step tutorial on “how to change name in 10th marksheet” by Advocate Suresh Sir.

He guided each and every step in detail, which built trust and confidence in me that my problem would be solved.

I was impressed by his knowledge and the way of his presentation in the video.

Talking Over Call with Advocate Suresh

I sent a WhatsApp message to the number he provided in his YouTube channel, and I was advised to book a call appointment by paying Rs.500 to talk directly over the phone with Advocate Suresh. I booked my call, and after confirmation, I got one more video guide where Sir explained each and everything before the call to make things easier.

This boosted my confidence in me as it was my first time talking with an advocate.

After 8 hours, my phone rang around 8.30 P.M, and it was Suresh Sir’s call. I explained everything to him, and he assured my saying it’s a very common case.

He also guides me that if anyone needs correction in his or her parents’ name or self-name, the same process is followed, and once the gazette notification is done, one can get his/her name corrected in the marksheet.

He also guided me that this Gazette notification is going to be as powerful that even if I don’t get my name corrected in the marksheet, just by presenting this notification along with the marksheet wherever it is required for any kind of verification, it is going to clear that verification by my correct name.

He guided me through the 3 steps to get my gazette notification published.

3 Steps of Marksheet Name Correction Gazette

Sir told me to share copies of the following documents over WhatsApp to get my drafting started.

  • 10th Marksheet Copy
  • Aadhar
  • Pan

Step 1: Name Correction Affidavit

Marksheet name correction affidavit

At the very first step, he drafted the main matter that would be published in the Gazette and asked for my confirmation if there were any corrections or mistakes. I checked the spelling and address of mine and confirmed that everything is fine.

Then he drafted an Affidavit as per my case, sent it to me in PDF format, and asked me to get it attested by a Notary on Rs. 10 or Rs. 50 Stamp paper (whichever is lower available in your city or state).

I did the same.

Step 2: Newspaper Ad Publication for Name Correction

In the second step, he gave the name correction Ad in my area’s newspaper. He first confirmed with me which newspaper comes to my area before confirming the newspaper Ad.

He also told me that most people suggest two ads in two newspapers, but the Gazette department never needed two Ads in newspapers. Only one newspaper Ad is enough, and the language of the newspaper could be anything, but our matter should be in English only so that spellings of our names are confirmed.

The date he gave me to collect newspapers from the market, on that day I went to the market and bought 4 copies of physical paper. Sir guided me in advance that we need physical papers only; e-papers don’t work.

Step: Signing Gazette File

After the newspaper Ad, sir sent me another file containing 4 pages in PDF. He asked me to print the file and put my signature over there. I did the same. I also pasted 2 passport size photos and did attest both photos by crossing signing over there.

There were 2 pages where I had to get signature of my two neighbours or friends. No IDs of witnesses were required.

I followed the instructions and did the same.

After that, Sir sent me a .DOCX file and guided me to burn that into a CD as it is. I did this part as well.

Paying Govt. Fee

I was instructed that there are two ways to pay the government fee: one is by visiting the Gazette office, and the second method is paying the fee online.

I opted for the online method and paid my fee by generating a challan of Rs. 1400 under the Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs and paid the amount using the website https://bharatkosh.gov.in/.

After payment, I got a fee receipt in PDF format. I printed that file and attached the fee receipt to my file.

Submission of Marksheet Name Correction Gazette File

Sir told me that now my whole file is ready.

Again, there were two ways to get my file submitted to the Gazette office;

  1. In person by visiting the Gazette office in Delhi
  2. Sending the whole file via Courier or Post

Sir told me that If I go in person for submission, then it will be published within 5 weeks after submission. If I opt for the courier method, it takes a minimum of 45 days to 60 days, and even in some cases, it takes like up to 90 days. Also, I won’t be able to track what’s happening with my file.

I was thinking of opting for self-submission, but sir told me that I will have to reach the Gazette office on or before 9 A.M., as there is a token system. People come from all over India as there is only 1 office of the Central Gazette and that is in Delhi only.

Somehow I told my problem to the sir, and he assured me to send my file via courier. I did the same, and luckily, my Gazette notification got published in 40 days only.

This was like a new day in my life. I was so happy. The whole process went very smoothly just because of Suresh sir. I thanked him a lot.

10th Marksheet Name Correction Done

Now, it was time to visit my CBSE regional office with the Gazette notification along with supportive documents and 1 newspaper Ad. I reached the CBSE regional office. They went through my file and said all is okay, but I need to give an additional undertaking and one affidavit attested by a 1st Class Magistrate.

I did both on the same day.

It took around 1.5 months, and my name got corrected in my Marksheet.
